You might know that the speed of SSD is faster than HDD. But not everybody could buy a laptop with SSD because of its high cost. Don’t worry I will tell you about how you could get the fast speed with your old laptop with SSD on a budget. Apart from this, I will let you know about SSD Vs HDD.
What Is HDD?
The full form of HDD is the hard disk drive. It is a traditional technology.
What Is SSD?
SSD full form is a solid-state drive. This is the latest & fast technology.
SSD Vs HDD: Main Difference-
We will explain everything in a detailed & simple manner.
SSD:
- SSD is fast.
-
High cost.
-
High performance.
-
Best for storing short files & frequently used data.
-
Good for gaming, video editing & all those tasks that need fast read/write speed.
-
Latest & new technology.
-
Size is small.
-
It doesn’t create sound.
-
SSDs don’t break easily.
-
No moving parts.
HDD:
-
HDD is slow.
-
Cost-effective.
-
Slow performance.
-
Perfect for keeping large files, videos, movies, etc.
-
Perfect for day-to-day tasks.

HDD creates sound while moving.
-
Reliable.
-
There are moving parts.
Should you buy a laptop with an SSD?
You need an SSD on your laptop if you are a gamer, video editor, programmer, YouTuber, or dealing with heavy files.
But for a laptop with an SSD, you need to invest double the price that you spend on a traditional HDD.
You don’t even need to pay double the price for SSD for getting high speed & performance. So I am going to answer this question in the next query.
Reasons To Buy A SSD for your old laptop.
Whether your laptop is new or old, you can always buy a new SSD if you have only HDD on your laptop.
So if your old laptop doesn’t give you high speed, you must buy an SSD (This will cost you low.) and install it. You will get this task done at any laptop service centre.
Cost of buying a laptop with an inbuilt SSD and buying an external SSD for an old laptop.
Cost Of Buying A Laptop With inbuilt SSD:
A laptop with an inbuilt SSD is costly. If you are buying a minimum storage SSD(128GB) that also costs you more.
Cost Of Buying an external SSD For An Old Laptop:
Whether your laptop is new or old, if you are buying SSD externally that will always be cost-effective.
So if your budget is low and you need a high speed & performance, buy a laptop with HDD and install SSD afterward.
Should I Buy A Laptop With HDD Or SSD?
For programmers, video editors, gamers, YouTubers, etc, you just need an SSD for fast speed so either you could purchase a laptop with an inbuilt SSD or buy a laptop & install SSD later.
If you do normal tasks and need a lot of space for storing heavy files, you should certainly buy a laptop with HDD.
Should you consider both SSD & HDD for your laptop?
Yes the combination of both SSD & HDD is perfect for high performance & storing big files.
In that case, you could invest in a minimum storage SSD (128GB) to speed up everything and an HDD for containing your extra data.
Should I get a laptop with a 1 TB HDD or 256 GB SSD?
You have to understand your needs first. If you are the one who wants more storage to keep your data and you don’t bother about the speed, go for 1 HDD.
On the contrary, for high speed and low storage, you can go for a 256GB SSD.
At last, you can always go for both HDD & SSD to grab everything.
Experience in installing an SSD on my old laptop.
I have two laptops. Both are from the renowned ACER brand.
First:
ACER core i3 i7 gen, 1TB HDD & 4GB RAM.
Second:
ACER core i3 i8 gen, 1TB HDD & 4GB RAM.
There was a very low speed in my first laptop (core i3 i7 gen, 1TB HDD & 4GB RAM) and I decided to install an SSD on this laptop.
I went to the ACER service centre (Because I bought an ACER laptop) and asked them to install an SSD.
So they asked me to choose an SSD for my laptop. They had different SSDs with good storage. But I chose 128GB (cost 2000 INR) because I already had a 1 TB HDD for keeping my large files.
I didn’t want an SSD for storing my data, I only want a good speed from my laptop.
Now I have the perfect combination of HDD & SSD for speed and storing my data.
